By joining GS1, the Healthcare Supply Chain Standards Coalition, a member-based collaborative of organizations representing the entire healthcare supply chain, can most effectively complete its mission of making the healthcare supply chain safer and more efficient. Uniform standards and practices will address many of the inefficiencies and errors in the healthcare supply chain and ultimately reduce costs and improve patient safety.
The Standards Coalition is comprised of healthcare providers, suppliers, group purchasing organizations, technology companies, industry associations, and governmental entities. Last year, the Standards Coalition endorsed GS1’s standards for organization and product identification, as well as its Global Data Synchronization Network® standards. Since that time, the two groups have been collaborating to further develop the GS1 standards to meet the needs of the US health system.
